International production company Hamlet has signed multi award winning director Bernd Faass to their roster for representation in Belgium, France and China.

German native Faass is a graduate of the prestigious Film Academy Baden-Württemberg, and in 2018, he won the Gold Porsche International Student Advertising Award for Tears In Heaven, a campaign for his own brand, Tears Dry Gin. Just a year later, Bernd was shortlisted for the British Arrows Best New Director and D&AD Next Director awards. He is also the proud owner of Clio, New York festivals, Art Directors Club Germany awards among others.

Faass has directed globally celebrated commercial campaigns for clients including Mercedes, Lidl, Bosch, Sparkasse and Porsche.

As a highly technical director with strong comedic, performance and casting skills and an eye for visual effects, he writes and directs ‘peculiar films about life, the universe and everything else’.

Faass said: “I’ve been a big fan of Hamlet for quite a while. So I was really happy when Jason Felstead reached out to me via Instagram. I almost never check my messages, so it had been in my DM box for about 3 weeks before I got to read it. Thankfully Jason was still very polite and after discovering we had a lot in common, he told me if I wanted to work with Hamlet I had better get much quicker at answering his messages!”

Jason Felstead adds: "We’re very thrilled to welcome Bernd to the Hamlet roster. I mean, a director who sends an onion into space is someone you want on your roster instantly. I have followed Bernd’s work since his infamous ’Tears in Heaven’. I tried to connect with him over Instagram but the guy lives in a remote area in Germany and seems to be very much not connected. We went back and forth with huge intervals of silence and I sort of gave up. Until one day we managed to jump on a call and had an instant connection. I admit I pictured him to be a smelly bearded hermit but he turned out to be a really charming, funny guy with great charisma. We exchanged some small talk, he said he was a fan of Hamlet, I was flattered, I told him I loved his work, he was flattered, and we decided to make it work there and then. Jokes aside: his work is funny and he skilfully combines humour with beautiful imagery and state-of-the-art visual effects, what’s not to like?  And to be honest I’m also really looking forward to having a taste of the gin he makes.”
