Good things come in threes for BOLD
It's a trio of signings for BOLD as Conor Byrne, Ezra Hurwitz and JJ Augustavo join the company for UK repreesentatrion.
London-based production company BOLD has announced the signing of three new directors to its roster for UK representation; Conor Byrne, Ezra Hurwitz and JJ Augustavo.
Byrne grew up on film sets and has carved out a very successful career with meticulously art directed cinematic comedy work. He got his start, says BOLD, in front of the camera as a buck-toothed kid in a bad car insurance commercial before going on to win a Young Director Award and several Cannes Lions at the first attempt. He has since directed award-winning international campaigns and branded films for clients like Pringles, Cravendale, National Lottery, Microsoft, NFL, NBA, Ikea, Pepsi, McDonalds and many more, while his narrative shorts have played at festivals worldwide.
Hurwitz was a professional dancer with New York City Ballet before turning his hand to choreography and filmmaking. A project with Spike Jonze and film commissions from major cultural institutions like the Guggenheim Museum and NYTimes set him on his way. In 2022 he picked up an EMMY for his short film Inside & Outwards, which was narrated by Sarah Jessica Parker and, in the same year, his video for Sufjann Steven’s Sugar picked up a Ciclope Award, AICP Award and UKMVA. He’s also directed for brands such as Tiffany’s, Dior, Smirnoff, Apple, Aldo and Stella Artois.
Last, but by no means least, Jon Jon 'JJ' Augustavo is a Filipino-American filmmaker from Seattle, Washington. He started making rap videos in Seattle by himself "for money in a paper bag,” as he puts it himself, which quickly led to directing award-winning Macklemore videos (Thrift Shop, Same Love and Can’t Hold Us), generating more than three billion views online. Alongside music videos and contemporary real-life stories, BOLD states that Augustavo also brings a comedic and visual flair to his commercial work for brands including Sport England, Adidas, Jordan, Reebok, Footlocker, Taco Bell, PlayStation and Samsung.
“Conor’s reel is a perfect fit, seamlessly adding to and complementing our established comedy roster," says BOLD's Founder and Executive Producer, Rob Godbold. “When I saw Ezra’s Inside & Outwards in 2020 I was hooked," Godbold adds. "Obviously, he is a master of choreography, yet that does not define him, he brings a refined aesthetic, dynamic cinematography and strong visual narrative to all his work.”
Of Augustavo, Godbold says; “We are so impressed with JJ’s work, there’s an authentic voice in his stories, the Macklemore films and Sport England ooze heart and soul from every frame and being award winning is one thing, but also accruing the public vote with literally billions of hits on YouTube is true approval.”
