This year Wunderman Thompson and Rinascente celebrate the magic of the authentic Christmas with their new campaign Finding Christmas.

After a year of distancing ourselves from each other, being able to really enjoy Christmas again is a moment of great emotion, and an occasion that Rinascente has decided to seize to reawaken the Christmas spirit.

Finding Christmas tells the story of a sincere Christmas, that more than anything is made of people, the only ones who can turn this period of the year into something truly magical. The founding values of the brand, which are pillars of the Keep It Beautiful manifesto, are an integrated part of the campaign.

Together they create a world of emotions and magic that comes to life thanks to the talent and the technique of Tuscan artist Virgilio Villoresi, who has been entrusted with the construction of a real Christmas fairytale through a combination of stop motion and 2D animation.

A modern feeling, one of longing for affection and closeness, is told through a story that lives halfway between reality and imagination, and that, thanks to the world of Lemax in the store’s window displays, finds two unexpected and romantic protagonists in a Nutcracker and a Ballerina.

Villoresi on the peculiarities of the job: “Every phase of this film, every aspect of it, is a result of numerous artisanal skills coming together. Stop motion animation creates movement through a certain number of photos which increases accordingly to the fluidity you want to obtain. For this film we had 25 shots per second. Considering the 60” duration, this film was told through 1500 shots. The animated puppet-protagonists are the result of a long and complex process. The modelling and the sartorial aspect come from years-long experiences that have evolved in time and that have been adapted to the specific needs of stop motion animation. In addition to the set design - created ad hoc - the bi-dimensional backdrops play an equally important role and were handmade with a mixed technique, printed and cut out.  "

The many souls of Wunderman Thompson melt together in this integrated campaign that stems from craftmanship and that expands and becomes a digital campaign that is present in all the brand’s channels, from social media to e-commerce, to an interactive event and to the store’s window displays, the final destination of the search. Christmas can finally come to life in front of everybody’s eyes.
