New Orleans raised filmmaker Phillip Youmans’ newest music video Pieces for Fana Hues is set in a surreal talent show hosted by Fana Hues herself.
Introducing one act after the other, Fana Hues leaves the audience both excited and mesmerised by the diverse set of acts.
Youmans employs an active, reactionary, yet fluid camera approach that allows the subjective camera to be a living, breathing being allowed to investigate and explore on its own whim. With curiosity and intimacy, Youmans allows us to feel the perspectives of Fana, the band, the contestants, and the audience.
Most known for his award-winning debut feature Burning Cane, Youmans has emerged as a singular talent and one of the most exciting new voices in film. Following his music video Interlude (Loving The People) for Michael Kiwanuka, Philip Youmans continues to bring a humanizing, nuanced light into the format of music videos with his mesmerising and surreal universe of Pieces for Fana Hues.
