Discovery Health has played, and continues to play, a significant role in the lives of millions of South Africans, being there when they need it most. At the heart of The Fixer is a simple but profound truth: “none of us can get healthy on our own.”
For Affective27, this idea began as a simple insight but the more people it was shared with, the more powerful it became. People responded with deeply personal stories of illness, recovery and healing - giving the team confidence that they had found something worth telling, and finding the right director was equally important.

Goode says: “Every so often a script lands with magic dust on it. The brief was simple: bring together the finest film and theatre actors in the country and let them tell the truth about a journey back to health. We asked them to make us feel the pain, joy, suffering and hope - we wanted all of it. There was rarely a dry eye behind the VT monitor and the result is a commercial that doesn’t ask you to watch, but rather asks you to feel.”
Shot over six days, the film’s authenticity is carried by five deeply human stories and Msaki’s exquisite interpretation of Coldplay’s Fix You.
Head of Copy at Affective27, Morne Strydom says the completed film exceeded everything they hoped for and is something they are exceptionally proud of. “It is human, honest, raw and real and ultimately, inspiring”, positioning Discovery Health as “The one who is there by your side, like no other, on your journey to being healthier.”
