HunkyDory is thrilled to be adding Kate Cox to its directing roster.

Cox provides HunkyDory with a truly unique visual style that is striking and bold, while also raw and intimate. She's a crusading filmmaker who pushes casting, style and emotion to new heights in everything she makes. Having already shot two campaigns with HunkyDory and impressing all involved, it felt right to make the partnership official.

Cox graduated from Nottingham Trent University with a First Class Hons in Fine Art and went on to work as Assistant Art Director in film and TV, before moving to London to hone her photographic eye by assisting editorial and portrait photographers. In 2017, Cox began directing her own scripts. Cox’s films tackle the complex, current and distinctly human subject matters that are too often underrepresented on screen. Being drawn to ideas of gender, the female experience and sexuality, Cox’s storytelling is both tender and bold, refusing to shy from the emotionally knotty and sensitive themes at its core.

Her first short, VERT (2019) starring Nikki Amuka-Bird, Nick Frost and Olivia Vinall, won the SXSW Vimeo Staff Pick award and went on to be featured on Amazon Prime. VERT explores identity through a V.R device that shows the characters their "ideal self". What is supposed to be a sexual reawakening for the couple celebrating their 20th wedding anniversary becomes the unearthing of Jeff's secret, which shifts their relationship indelibly.

Cox is currently in pre-production for her second short TORR and has her feature script BAMBINA in the early stages of development.
