CANADA has added writer and director Jasmina Wood to its London directors' roster.

Born in the Czech Republic, with Iraqi roots and raised in South East London, she brings a distinct voice with sharp eye for subculture, and an intuitive, narrative-led approach to filmmaking.

A natural born writer and intuitive director, Wood's work is grounded in sharp dialogue, vivid characterisations and a sensitivity to real human interaction. Having taken an unconventional route into directing, pivoting from a background at agencies like AKQA during the lockdown to producing and directing her own fashion films, she has quickly carved out a reputation for taking bold creative risks on her own terms.

Her breakout narrative projects, including the acclaimed branded short Dinner Date, showcase her capacity to blend fashion, humour, and British culture with raw emotional authenticity, capturing characters and moments that feel both familiar and unconventional.

Rooted in contemporary youth culture, Wood understands where modern audiences live and isn't afraid to challenge standard formats to reach them. Her ability to navigate complex cultural nuances with humour, vulnerability and cinematic flair makes her one of the most exciting emerging voices in Britain today.

“Jasmina’s voice is clear and authentic, from her natural talent for writing to her ability to capture characters and stories that stay with audiences and travel beyond them,” said CANADA London’s MD, Marta Bobić. “She has a very specific perspective on UK culture and a curiosity about identity that feels globally relevant. Supporting a director with such strong artistic conviction as she takes this next big step is very exciting for CANADA.”

On joining the roster, Wood added: “From the moment I met CANADA’s UK team, I felt really seen. We clicked straight away, and it’s exciting to join a team that understands my language and where I want to go as a director. I can’t wait to go on that journey with people I deeply admire.”
