One of Europe’s most respected commercial directors, Jan was born in Germany and educated in the US, always pursuing a career focused on his deep passion for cinema. Having begun in editing and camera work before becoming an AD, Jan quickly saw in directing an effective and satisfying route for expressing the stories at the core of his global, very human, unique worldview.
Jan’s ability to capture relevant and credible moments and convey them with a bold and poetic visual style has long been one of his trademarks. His ultimate goal is to take the heart of a brand’s message and craft it into an impactful, resonant connection with the viewer that lights up their imagination. Jan loves to explore new narrative approaches and achieve the perfect balance of emotion, energy, personality and style for all his film. Jan is well known for being a passionate and collaborative partner working closely with agency, client and crew alike.
Jan just wrapped international commercials for both BMW and Peugeot, and worked on worldwide campaigns for brands including Audi, Samsung, Gucci, Mercedes, Nescafe, Hornbach, VW and Renault, directing a unique range of talents including Leonardo DiCaprio, Kiera Knightly, James Franco, Bryan Ferry, Boris Becker, Sienna Miller and Nina Hagen.
He recently shot The Art of Storytelling for Rolex, which aired during the 2018 Academy Awards. The spot features legendary filmmakers Martin Scorsese, Kathryn Bigelow, Alejandro G. Iñárritu and James Cameron.
