Arts & Sciences has added celebrated director David Dearlove to its UK and European roster.

With a background in creative direction at agencies, Engine, and Droga5, his deep experience in the ad space informs his impressive knowledge of commercial filmmaking and innovative means of storytelling.

As a director, Dearlove’s style stems from the seed of each idea and is led by the way each story unfolds. His aesthetic and artistic point of view cannot be pinned down to a singular theme, however, all of his films are marked by excellence in his craft and a refined cinematic vocabulary. His short films Fighting Talk and Taj Mahal Presents… A Short Film find inventive ways to uplevel production value on smaller budgets, speaking to Dearlove’s prowess as a filmmaker.

Dearlove’s commercial work ranges from the gut-wrenching film for Women’s Aid to a confronting film for Breast Cancer Now, an inspirational ad for the Royal Air Force, and a film for the Kiyan Prince Foundation that won him a Titanium Grand Prix at Cannes Lions. He has won four other Cannes Lions Awards, as well as several Creative Circle, Clio Awards, British Arrows, D&AD Awards, Young Director Awards, and One Show Awards. Dearlove was also named Best New Director by shots, Creative Circle, and LIA.

“I’ve long been a fan of the work Arts & Sciences puts out,” remarks Dearlove on joining the ranks of the renowned production company. “I think all of my roster-mates are amazing. Arts & Sciences produces top-tier films, commercials, and otherwise, and as I continue to evolve my career as a director, I’m thankful to be guided by expert producers with such great taste.”

James Bland, Arts & Sciences’ Executive Producer and Partner based in London, adds, “David has a singular voice and an irreplicable eye for unique, quality filmmaking. We’re very excited to have someone on board who’s worked on the other side of the advertising relationship and look forward to seeing what comes next for him. He’s only getting started, and we’re lucky to have him on our roster.”
