Dessert Before Dinner, an Emmy-winning production company specialising in playful, humorous, and upbeat content, is now repped by independent rep Dana Dubay throughout all East Coast territories. The company, which began in 2019, has honed a style that heavily features handmade visuals, practical effects, and a great sense of humour.

“We take our comedy work very seriously, but would never take ourselves too seriously,” says Andy Kelemen, founder and director. “We’re all a bunch of extremely collaborative humans, so this signing is a great next step in our growth.”

The signing means expanded opportunities for the boutique production company, who has curated a body of work from Pittsburgh and West-Coast based agencies. The company also has a large arsenal of freelance editors and VFX specialists, enabling them to complete post-production on many of the projects they produce. Their team is also excited to generate more work for Pittsburgh, where more money ends up on screen due to the production resources in the area.

"I am thrilled to be working with Dessert Before Dinner, a creative and innovative production company that specialises in making delicious and delightful content” adds rep Dana Dubay. “Dessert Before Dinner is not just a name, but a philosophy of life. They believe that life is too short to wait for dessert, and that we should enjoy the sweet things first. They have a passion for storytelling, humour, and quality that shows in their work. Whether it’s a comedy, a drama, or a documentary, they deliver a satisfying and memorable experience for the audience and their clients. Dessert Before Dinner is a company that I respect, and I can’t wait to collaborate with Andy Kelemen and producer Lisa Verzilli on our next project.”

“We’re excited to bring our unique sense of humour to more agencies around the country,” says producer Lisa Verzilli. “We hope to find more collaborators looking to push norms, and bring smart and fresh campaigns to life.”

Kelemen and Verzilli, who got their start as editors,  take a different approach to comedy spots, through pushing clients to be weirder when needed, building elaborate props, and their unusual casting methods; sometimes pulling strangers in off the street. The company in recent years, has created content for the likes of Elysian Brewing, Pokémon, and Post Cereal. Plus, there’s cake on set!
