D&AD Judges On Creativity
Last week saw the advertising institution and educational charity D&AD take over Kensington's Olympia for the judging sessions of its well-regarded awards. Featuring over 190 judges from every corner of the world, the week allowed each one to view, examine, sniff and manipulate the submitted works. Unlike other shows, D&AD only awards work of the highest standard, meaning that the quantity of top awards given fluctuates year on year and that the meticulous juries will not award any entry if it does not merit the accolade. The scrutiny and rigour imposed by the internationally acclaimed judges is legendary, and ensures that only very best work receives the coveted Yellow and Black Pencils.
As there was such a collection of adland greats on our London office's doorstep, we thought it only right to pop along and quiz some of the jurors on their views of the submissions, the judging process and creativity in general. Amongst the few we managed to speak to were Paul Weiland, Tiger Savage, Ezra Xenos and Emma de la Fosse.
You can view the exclusive video interviews below:
Paul Weiland
Director at Weilands and D&AD Film Advertising Crafts Foreman Paul Weiland talks about the difference between judging at D&AD and the 'real world' of advertising.
Tiger Savage
Tigers Eye Founder & CEO and D&AD Crafts for Advertising Foreman Tiger Savage King discusses the difficulty of appreciating and recognising sound design.
Ezra Xenos

Emma de la Fosse
