A pawn… with a knife?!
That was the start of this high-fantasy piece-de-theatre trailer for Pixie, the new online chess platform where players use magical pieces to compete for real money.
"When we got the initial deck on the game and the storyboard from Dark Igloo and Pixie, The CRCR were inspired by medieval stage plays from the '70s with hand painted backdrops and films from the early 80s like Excalibur. We were thrilled they trusted us and gave us the space to build it!
Doing this mostly in 3D brought out the tactile textures and gleaming reflections we were looking for, and it all blended together with the matte paintings and 2D FX beautifully. Everyone had such a blast working on this modern update to the medieval epic."
