Luo Jian is a modern director and screenwriter with an eye on the future.

Born in the world’s furthest place from the sea, the Gobi Desert, where Asia and Europe meet in the West of the East and the East of the West, just like her films.

Jian’s spellbinding NYU graduation film What Do You Know About the Water & The Moon premiered at Clermont-Ferrand Film Festival (Grand Prix nominee). Screening at over 40 festivals, including the BFI London Film Festival (best short nominee) and the AFI Fest, before it launched on the NOWNESS Asia platform in June 2020.

Brands like Mercedes-Benz, UPS and Nestlé, have all trusted her effortless ability to flex the boundary between truth and fiction, finding deep connections wherever her characters take her. With a profound fascination in emotionally resonant stories, Jian is a bold filmmaker building meaningful stories in any medium, she is now writing her first feature film.

She received the Ang Lee grant, the Hollywood Foreign Press Award, and the Artist in Residence program at Palm Springs International Film Festival. In between her writing and directing projects, Jian spends her time connecting with her community by teaching filmmaking to elderly immigrants at senior centres.

Marta Bobić, CANADA UK Managing Director, notes that “We are delighted to welcome Jian to CANADA’s global roster. Her skill for getting to the heart of a story and breathing life into her characters through even the smallest details caught our eye and we couldn’t be more excited to collaborate with her. Jian’s reel shows a deep dedication to craft, something we share, and we are looking forward to bringing her touch to commercials, music videos and more.”

Jian commented, "It’s always inspiring to surround myself with people who are not only interested in producing good work, but also interested in building a community. CANADA feels like such a crowd. Their ideas are without boundaries, and they are curious about what a different voice may say."

After living in New York for almost a decade, she is now based in the UK and joins CANADA for worldwide representation, already working with us on a global project that brings advertising and music together.
