Burt’s Bees un-masks campaign celebrating our lips
Spot directed by Emilie Thalund and produced by Epoch Films.
As the pandemic turns a corner, Burt’s Bees is celebrating the re-emergence of one of our most expressive features, our lips.
The leading lip care brand is launching a campaign to mark the return of authentic human connection and self-expression as faces are revealed and lips are once again center stage. Over the past year, lip care has not been top of mind for many reasons, from masks to lack of travel and getting together with one another. With the launch of this campaign, Burt’s Bees is taking its first step towards reinvigorating the category and reminding people to care for their lips.
Created in partnership with creative agency dentsumcgarrybowen, the centerpiece spot which launched on Hulu this week, and will be followed by online video, social, and linear TV as well as in-store elements.

Over the past year many people have felt isolated and separated from communities and support systems. Burt’s Bees wants to go beyond caring for skin, to care for the vessel that helps people convey so much, as they rekindle those valuable connections.
Nothing allows us to express ourselves to one another quite like our lips, and in a series of vignettes featuring a diverse range of people and scenarios, Burt’s Bees showcases the many ways that lips can help people connect by illustrating how they enable self-expression, self-care, and love.
The brand was intentional in its use of complementary colour throughout the campaign, creating a directory of pantones inspired by real lips as a subtle design nod to Burt’s Bees commitment to all things lip care, for lips of all kinds.
