Award-winning director Bjarke Underbjerg has released a new short film titled SOL (SUN), a poignant and evocative narrative inspired by the music of the renowned band Rigmor.
The film explores themes of recovery, revelation, and the intricate dynamics within relationships.
SOL delves into the lives of its characters with a striking aesthetic choice: it is shot entirely in black and white and in a 4:3 aspect ratio. This creative decision, according to Underbjerg, serves to elegantly frame the human experience, both physically and symbolically.
He explains, "A face is elegantly and purely framed in black and white 4:3. But also symbolically, when you see people in that format you often strip away the unnecessary."

The narrative follows Nanna, who is in the process of recovering from cancer, and Niklas, who finds unexpected revelations and solace in the community of a local improv theatre group. The film's emotional depth and intimate portrayal of its characters are heightened by the musical backdrop provided by Rigmor.
"I have always admired Rigmor's music," says Underberg.
"Sarah's voice, the lyrics, the melodies. And I have always seen a great cinematic potential in Rigmor's music because it contains many of the elements I value in films: the vulnerable and fragile, often portrayed in something relational between people. Several of the songs allow for thoughts and contemplation, providing space for cinematic scenes."
Underberg's vision for SOL extends beyond traditional music videos. He sees the film as a creative free space to experiment with narrative forms and to push the boundaries of what is possible in the intersection between music and film.
