Anonymous Content has expanded its relationship with award-winning comedy director and writer Max Barden for commercials and branded entertainment representation in the US.

The Australian filmmaker continues to be represented by Anonymous Content in the UK., where he was originally signed last year.

The Australian filmmaker has an ability to find comedy in unexpected places and nail well-timed deadpan performances; whether he’s injecting a sensitive personality into a self-checkout machine for Kalo, wringing tension out of a loaf of bread for Vogel’s, or bringing back the OG Ice-T for Lipton Ice Tea.

“Max is one of the most exciting young comedic voices working today. He has a rare gift for pushing into absurdity while staying anchored to character and story,” says Eric Stern, Partner, Managing Director and Executive Producer at Anonymous Content. “We’re thrilled to extend our relationship with him to US representation.”

“I’m somewhat of an expert on Max Barden” says Barden. “In fact, I’ve been Max Barden my whole life. I honestly can’t remember the last time I was this excited. About anything. I can’t wait to get stuck into the American market with Anonymous Content and make funny ads that sell billions and billions of units."

The news of Barden’s global expansion comes on the heels of his latest work, a campaign out of BBH London for online sports betting site Paddy Power, which pits the US and UK against each other. Featuring England’s Danny Dyer taking on Hollywood’s Rob Lowe, Nobody Does Football Better Than Us leans into North America hosting the World Cup and positions the battle between Yanks and Brits sporting cultures as being for nothing less than the true soul of football.

After graduating with a Bachelor of Film and Television from Bond University, Barden began his career as a production and director’s assistant in Melbourne before heading to Czar Amsterdam, where he spent a year as Trainee Director at Czar Amsterdam where he was mentored in comedic direction by Bart Timmer.

A four-time Golden Onion Winner in the International Barden Family Awards, he’s also picked up a few lesser-known accolades, including winning Best Directing at Ciclope Asia and being shortlisted for Directing at this year’s D&AD Awards for his New Zealand Transportation Agency campaign Booze Maths, and winning a Cannes Lions Grand Pix, two Silver and one Bronze for his Flipvertising campaign with Samsung. He also made history with the first-ever Silver Cannes Lions for Australian Lamb in the campaign’s 20-year history.

He’s currently living in a van in Spain, but he’ll go wherever the work takes him.
