The race is on: The Filmakademie Baden-Wuerttemberg, the UK’s National Film and Television School (NFTS) and Porsche AG are, once again, going in search of young filmmakers, and offering emerging, creative advertising film talent around the world a unique opportunity to present themselves and their work to a professional audience.

Students and young professionals with fewer than three years of experience in the industry have until 15 July 2019 to submit their films for the 16th PORSCHE AWARD in one of two categories.

In addition to traditional car advertisements, films relating to the mobility of the future are accepted in the Mobility Category. For example, this could include spots for environmentally sustainable local traffic, e-bikes, electric mopeds and car-sharing models, as well as relevant apps. Advertising spots may be up to 90 seconds in length (classical format for TV, cinema or internet), or up to a maximum of 3 minutes for films (e.g. branded short, internet version, integrated campaign, etc.).

The Classical Category is for classical advertising films not related to mobility, as well as all other advertising formats including campaigns, branded entertainment, mobile productions and trailers. As a new development this year, submissions are split into two sub-categories. Sub-category 1 is for spots up to 60 seconds in length, while sub-category 2 is for films of between 61 and 180 seconds. The jury will select 3–4 films from each sub-category for the shortlist, and a further 3 films will be nominated in the Mobility Category.

Three prizes are awarded in the Mobility Category and three in the Classical Category. In celebration of the iconic Porsche 911 sports car, the 1st prize in each category is €3,911, the 2nd prize is €2,911 and the 3rd prize is €1,911. In addition to that, all winning films will appear on the websites of the renowned advertising magazines shots and 1.4.

As always, a jury made up of prominent representatives of the international advertising film industry will judge all submissions with no knowledge of who produced them, and compile a shortlist of the ten best films. The ten shortlisted filmmakers will be invited to the award ceremony in the Curzon Soho cinema in London on 21 November 2019. It is the second time the event is held in the capital, having previously taken place at Picturehouse Central in 2016. The prestigious National Film and Television School, which is based in Beaconsfield just outside London, is the event co-host and partner.

The vibrant metropolis of London is one of the world’s most important advertising film centres and the award ceremony offers the young filmmakers a particularly attractive platform on which to present their work to the industry and to forge key contacts with established figures in the advertising world.

The Filmakademie Baden-Wuerttemberg has hosted the PORSCHE AWARD since it was first held in 2004. Since 2016, the Filmakademie and the National Film and Television School have been working together on the direction of the advertising film competition for young filmmakers – in close cooperation and coordination with Porsche AG, which has been the main sponsor from the very beginning. A representative from Porsche AG will present the winners with the prizes of the night, as well as a trophy designed exclusively for the event.

The PORSCHE AWARD is a non-profit event. Neither the organisers nor the sponsors derive any financial or commercial benefits. The aim is to promote young filmmakers in a way that helps them to independently make the step towards a professional and successful career. Since the NFTS joined as a partner, there has been a steady growth in the international reach of the competition and in the number of international submissions.
