Production company Alfredo Films has welcomed UK director, Sye Allen, for Canadian representation.

Originally hailing from rural Somerset, Allen is known for his quirky, elevated comedy spots, and isn’t afraid to get creative with dynamic camera moves and colourful set builds.

Allen’s directorial career follows a background agency side, at St. Lukes (the oldest independent agency in the UK) where he spearheaded the opening of their production arm.  This gave him the platform he needed to begin honing his directorial craft and unique style.  From there, he seamlessly transitioned into commercial directing.

Allen specialises in creating visually interesting spots with playful comedic performance and camera movement that acts as a character within his stories. His approach to directing produces incredibly fresh work which gives each of his spots an upbeat and energetic tone every time. He credits his eccentric style to a diet of horror novels, and absurd British comedies growing up, and names Paul Verhoeven and Edgar Wright as influencers to his work.

Holly Rowden, EP at Alfredo Films, has to say on the signings: “The Brits have always had the comedy game on lock, and Sye is no exception. We feel his experience bringing out the laughs from UK audiences is so applicable and transferable to our own market, and we can’t wait for him to dig into the amazing comedic creative that we have here in Canada!”.

On signing, Allen has to say “Half the battle is finding your creative voice, but then you have to surround yourself with the right people who understand it and champion it. The Alfredo family gets it; not being too serious, but taking everything seriously, finding beauty in the mundane and championing the everyday.”
