FCB Canada in partnership with Toronto production company Someplace Nice has launched a campaign – centred around a touching 90-second spot directed by Sean McBride – showing how nature can heal trauma.
The film follows a group of real-life veterans and first responders suffering from PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder) as they embark on their journey to recovery with Warrior Adventures Canada. This non-profit organisation operated by active and retired military members uses excursions into the country's wilderness, with whitewater canoeing, back-country camping and rock-climbing, to help PTSD sufferers recover.
A report by UC Berkeley revealed that the sense of awe that frequently accompanies nature excursions can be a major contributor in the reduction of PTSD symptoms. The study of a dozen veterans who participated in a four-day whitewater rafting trip found that it contributed to a 29 per cent reduction in PTSD symptoms and a 21 per cent decrease in general stress.
