What’s the best music video you’ve seen recently and why?

Magenta Riddim by DJ Snake. I love the energy so much, it’s so fun and ridiculous, and I really like the characters, and the little twist in the end. Runner up: The Blaze’s Territory, but everyone probably says that.

What’s the first music video you remember being impressed by?

The video for Too Much by the Spice Girls! It’s probably not that amazing now, or even before, but I remember I was pretty impressed by the feel of it, how everything was slow and colourful.

And what’s your all-time favourite music video?

M.I.A.’s Bad Girls because of M.I.A. mainly…  I’m in love with her, plus I love music videos where there are a million things going on at the same time. Also, I love how it didn’t look like the edit was super-planned.

What other directors/artists do you look to for inspiration?

Romain Gavras; whoever edits for him is really good.  I’ve been really into Ari Aster recently after watching Hereditary. I watched all his shorts on Vimeo, and they all have this really unique feel to them.

What are you listening to at the moment?

A combination of The Blaze and Kids See Ghosts.

What’s your favourite bit of tech, whether for professional or personal use?

I don’t use that much tech, so I guess the camera on my phone. I’d shoot everything with it, if it didn’t look so silly… it’s such a great tool and I love the look of it too.

What artist(s) would you most like to work with and why?

Charli XCX! Some of her songs are insanely experimental, especially in the POP 2 album. There’s one song called Lucky where she shouts on the auto tune and it sounds like half-angel, half-dolphin with a dash of swan (I don’t really know what swans sound like but I feel like it sounds like this). Runner up: Lorde.

How do you feel the music video industry has changed since you started out?

It’s becoming more experimental for sure, which is great.

Music videos have had a resurgence of late; where do you see the industry being in five years’ time?

It’s just gonna be stronger I guess, and hopefully less pink lights… I think we reached maximum pink light this year.

Tell us one thing about yourself that most people won’t know…

That I close my eyes when I see gore or violence in movies.
