DonVsDon: Charity Site that Takes Money from Trump
Loser Collective create site that takes money away from the White House for every dollar you donate to good causes.
Loser Collective, a group of anonymous creatives, have created DonVsDon, a site that takes money from the Trump-run federal government for every dollar you donate to progressive charities like Amnesty International, Greenpeace and the Human Rights Campaign.
Due to donations to some charities being tax-deductible, DonVsDon means that philanphropists can donate to charities such as Planned Parenthood, whilst also preventing their money from going through taxes to fund anti-abortion efforts.
We spoke to "Julien" of Loser Collective about the project, and what he thought Donald himself would say about it:
At what point did you decide enough was enough and you wanted to take action against Trump?
During the presidential campaign we were already worried about Trump’s program and promises.
But that’s really on Thursday, March 16th, when Donald Trump unveiled his first budget blueprint to Congress with major cuts to vital programs millions of American, that we’ve decided to act.
How did the project develop from the initial idea through to its launch?
We knew that we had to act quickly while the budget’s cuts were still the hot topic in the News.
Because everyday, Trump could turn the media headlines into a new topic with a simple tweet, as he loves to do, we had to launch the platform in the next days.
So we had this idea of a 2-in-1 action that by helping a charity organization, you actually take money from Trump’s government, as the tax-deductibles donations are refundable.
We worked day and night for an entire week, and launched DonVsDon on the next Thursday.
How did you choose which charities to begin with?
We’ve chosen to help causes that were directly threatened by Trump’s declarations during his campaign and his presidency (climate change, immigration, women, LGBTQ, gun laws...)
Every charity chosen is 501(C)-3 organization, so for every donation you’ll make, you’ll get a tax write-off, which means money that won’t go to the government.
And we will update the website with new organizations to help every program endangered by Trump’s action.
What are your hopes for the project in the future?
The DonVsDon platform has been created for every American people who wants to take action against Trump.
It is a simple, quick and effective action that will really change things. Every dollar counts for these charities to provide help to the victims of Trump’s damages.
We hope to reach a maximum of people to stand and resist against this worrying situation.
What do you think Trump would say about the project?
“It’s a bad bad bad project”.
