UN Women National Committee Australia have teamed with BMF to create an International Women's Day campaign that encourages us to Empower a Woman, Empower a Nation.

It does this with a web film directed by Al Moore and Tim Bishop featuring Australian women holding pictures of relatives who have fought against the confines of their gender, showing how much today's women have those who came before them to thank for.

For example, one women shows a picture of her great grandmother, the first woman to chair an Australian Senate Committee. Other show triumphs of the more everyday sort, such as a woman who shows a picture of her mum who, according to the on-screen titles, 'let me play soccer when all the other girls told me I should just do dancing'.

Following this, the ad shows images of women from the developing world who need support to do the same things their relatives have allowed them to do, whether it be vote or open a restaurant.

'International Women’s Day is celebrated annually on March 8 and it’s the National Committee’s biggest campaign of the year.' said the UN Women NC Australia executive director Janelle Weissman, 'It is vitally important that we take a stand by raising awareness and much-needed funds to ensure women and girls have the same opportunities as boys and men to lead, to learn and to earn,'

In the ad, they urge women to help with this by becoming Empowerment Champions, giving to and supporting the UN Women mission.
