Lana Del Rey: Love

Ladies and gentlemen, we are floating in space in Love. the first music video from Lana Del Rey’s upcoming new album.

Directed by Rich Lee, a director more accustomed to hip-hop videos for artists such as Eminem, 50 Cent and The Black Eyed Peas, the video at first seem more of the same Americana pastiche that has become Lana’s brand over three albums. Singing to camera like she’s on a late ‘60s variety show, she works quickly through her collection of retro references.

In a second section, however, the ad takes us to the stars, as the cars and cast of immaculately hair-cutted youth that are mandatory for a Del Rey video begin orbiting the moon is a series of exquisitely filmed scenes. The result is one part Space Race nostalgia, one part like a logical conclusion of the bit at the end of Grease where the car takes off into the sky.
