Introducing... Andrey Kasay
Fall down the rabbit hole to meet Jelly's most recent signing, Russian surrealist artist and director Andrey Kasay.
Trippy animations, loud prints and bold characters; it's no wonder Jelly London was drawn to illustrator and animation director Andrey Kasay.
Russian born, Kasay combines humour with absurdity to create surreal, pop art-inspired pieces that reveal his love of Soviet, American and Japanese animation. Having already worked with some brands, namely Red Bull, Skittles and Google, we're intrigued to see what else he's working on. Congrats on the signing Kasay! Check out Kasay’s Instagram and his work online for more illustrations and shorts.
Kitchen:
How do you define your artwork and yourself as an artist?
I don’t really define my work, I just do what I enjoy.
How did you get to where you are now?
I was born, then I was living and here I am.
What do you enjoy most about being an artist?
The freedom.
What’s a typical working day like for you?
I don’t have working days, I just have days. I wake up, make a breakfast for my family, play with my baby son, then I have about 12 hours of chaos and anarchy, then we have a dinner, watch a movie and go to bed.
Paramount Comedy:
What made you get into this industry?
My wife presented me with a Wacom Bamboo about nine years ago, I thought “why not try to draw” and Ta-Daa! – I’m in the industry.
How is your approach unique?
The most unique thing about my approach is that it is not really unique.
How important is social media in the role that you do?
Well, it works well for my self-rating. And also thanks to social media – someone knows I exist.
Dom52:
If you could name one person who has inspired you so far in your life, who would it be (and why)?
That was my dog Larry when I was a child. He was the craziest guy in the world.
What’s one thing that you strive to do in your career?
I strive to have a career.
What are the biggest challenges that you’re seeing in your industry and how do you plan on overcoming them?
The biggest challenge is to make people give me their galleries for my exhibitions. Lord, why don’t they just say “Andrey, you are welcome any time, just tell us the dates and we will do the rest!”
Room 111:
What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learnt so far in your career?
Don’t do what you don’t like to do.
What do you do to stay inspired?
I live.
