It's common knowledge that the release of John Lewis’ ad officially spells the beginning of Christmas. And as it was unveiled to the world yesterday, you're allowed to get excited now about watching festive films.

Love Actually, Elf and The Grinch are some of the most popular Christmas classics but don’t forget to flick on one of the originals Home Alone, which actually celebrated its 25th anniversary last year.

In a bid to resurrect the timeless but topical number, Portugeese electrical store MEO has enlisted the help of national footballer Cristiano Ronaldo and his real-life mother, Maria Dolores, to help flog some of their products.

Created seemingly in-house, the spot mimics the Home Alone classic – seeing Dolores rush home from holiday after realising her son has been left behind in the house.

Directed by Teresa Masdeu, the spot is edited in a tongue-in-cheek, slapstick style with laugh tracks in each scene to promote the same reaction from viewers.

Although the spot is filmed in Portugeese and a subtitled version is not (yet…) available, the plot is easy to follow and Ronaldo even sings English Christmas songs in the shower, karaoke-style. Definitely worth a watch if you’re not yet feeling the Christmas spirit.
