Burberry prides itself as one of Britain's oldest and most luxurious fashion brands.
To commemorate its 160th anniversary, Academy Award-winning director Asif Kapadia brought to life the retailer's lengthy history, reimagining the tailor's early beginnings and spanning key national events, documenting the public's early adoption of Burberry clothing.
Starring actresses Sienna Miller and Lily James as well as Domhnall Gleeson and Dominic West, the three-minute-long film reveals the fact that Burberry clothed some of the most influential people in British history, including polar explorar Sir Ernest Shackleton (played by West), female pilot Betty Kirby-Green (who inspired James' fictional character) and military troops throughout the century.
"This Christmas, as we celebrate our 160th anniversary we wanted to tell the story of Thomas Burberry - pioneer, inventor, innovator, and the man behind the iconic trench coat – in our own words," said Burberry chief creative and chief executive officer, Christopher Bailey. "The film we have made is a brief glimpse inspired by his full and extraordinary life, which threaded its way through the history of the twentieth century in all its tumultuous highs and lows."
