Photography app Instagram unveiled a new look earlier this week.

Swapping its previous logo - which looked like a vintage camera (above, left) - for a sleeker, more colourful design, the app now resembles the outline of a camera.

Designs for the new logo have been in development as of last year, according to a Medium post from Instagram's head of design Ian Spalter. As he admits the original logo was beginning to look outdated.

But some Instagram users have expressed mixed reactions over the news.

“We wanted to create a look that would represent the community’s full range of expression — past, present, and future,” he wrote.
