It’s week three back at work and the Christmas break already feels like it was ages ago… So long ago in fact that you’ve actually forgotten whether you even took it.

If this rings true and you too have been plugged in since you resumed your seat in the office, you'll know of course that today is Blue Monday (as if you needed reminding).

But do not be fooled by the nation’s apparently most depressing day of the year, as its creator Cliff Arnall has stepped forward to right all the controversial wrongs associated with today.

Blue Monday was initially created by psychologist Arnall in 2005 for British holiday company, Sky Travel.

While there is little science to actually support the idea that today - the third Monday of the year – contains the most depressing 24 hours for Brits, his formula has been widely circulated and left many fearful for what today can bring.

The formula (below) measures happiness levels by looking at the effects that weather, debts and motivation have on outlook during this time of year.

Thankfully, Arnall has created a short but sweetly-uplifting spot in partnership with the tourism board for the world’s most re-energising islands, the Canary Islands, to reverse his findings.

To prove that Blue Monday is inaccurate and that happiness can’t be calculated or predetermined, Arnall will strive to control the social media frenzy over #BlueMonday by replying to all associated tweets with a counter hashtag – #STOPBlueMonday.

He hopes that this may reverse any negativity connected with the campaign and that it will make people release the ridiculousness of it all... Thank god for that!

So, take a leaf out of Arnall’s book and help #StopBlueMonday. To find out more, click here.
