British band Wild Beasts have teamed up with Parisian animator and GIF-maker Mattis Dovie to create a GIF-Novel.

The project, through agency supported by The Jameson Works, a home for creatives to produce work aided by bursaries, saw the animator create a striking and innovative set of GIF animations which visualise the stories of two unreleased Wild Beasts tracks, Soft Future and Blood Knowledge.

The GIF-Novel tells two contrasting stories, one of a human in a robotic world and the other a robot in a human world. The final films beautifully combines different animation styles from retro pixel-art to Japanese manga.

Once the storyboards for the piece were finalised the band returned to the studio and edited the tracks to complement the GIFs. This was a completely new experience for the band, as they were essentially sound tracking the GIF-Novel, responding to Dovier's’ designs with their music.

The animated promo can be seen here, and allows users to decide which story to follow and therefore which track they will hear. They can then flip between each story via the space bar on their computer or mobile devices.

A making of film can be seen below.
