We all love a motivational movie, but when the film follows an uplifting story based on someone’s real life and experiences the case becomes even more meaningful.

Campaigns such as these Hotshots for Dewar’s Live True, Asics’ Made of Sport and Meet the Superhumans for Channel 4 in 2012, as well as inspirational talks and presentations such as this one from Lizzie Valesquez at TEDx, have given us a real sense of what’s possible out there in our everyday lives, and Intel’s latest Look Inside film follows suit by presenting amazing feats from ordinary people with an uplifting short film series launched in September 2013.

When a 15 year old boy invents an early detection method for cancer he gets noticed and rewarded by winning the Grand Prize at the 2012 Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) and the remarkable story became the subject of the first film in the campaign, Look Inside: Jack Andraka. The film has since garnered over two million YouTube hits and a wide amount of press coverage with no paid media.

The newest instalment introduces adventurer Erik Weihenmayer, who, despite being blind, has climbed Mt. Everest and all Seven Summits – something only 118 people have ever accomplished. The spot, directed by Knucklehead’s Christopher Hewitt, tells a symbolic version of Erik’s journey in reverse — starting at the top of a mountain and ending with the moment he finds the motivation to keep pushing the boundaries of what’s possible.

The films and campaign were created be Venables Bell & Partners to promote the message that inside each of us is the potential to create something beautiful or accomplish the remarkable. Whether that accomplishment is a song, an equation, an invention or a single brave sentence, it all starts with a ‘Look Inside’.

One of the engaging aspects of the campaign is that the films are narrated by the subjects and not everything is given away about the stories before the end which keeps you guessing and holds your attention.

Look Inside: Erik Weihenmayer is the second film to be released by Intel to encourage people around the world to look within and trust that they have what it takes to do something special, no matter who they are or the obstacles in front of them.
