Nic Owen, managing director at 72andSunny Amsterdam gives us his take on 2013 and what he’d like to see more and less of in the next 12 months.

How would you describe 2013 for the industry, creatively speaking?

There was some stuff that used technology smartly and some stuff that was beautifully told. But I didn't see a whole lot of stuff that did both. Oh, and Jean-Claude Van Damme.

And what about your own creative performance in the last 12 months?

Solid. We collaborated with Google Creative Lab on a really beautiful campaign for Google Stories, which we're really proud of. Early 2014 will be key for us with new work for Smirnoff, Samsung and Benetton breaking. Exciting times.

What do you think your own best personal achievement has been in the past year?

Getting engaged. Eek.

What are you most excited about for 2014?

Getting married. Eek.

And what are your predictions for the ad industry in general in 2014?

I'm hoping someone can put all the bits together - smart thinking, storytelling, technology, craft, data, media - and make something truly amazing. And I'm hoping it'll be us.

Which campaign or piece of work will you remember from this year?

I'd say Laurent Aigon was a big highlight for me. A collaboration with Google Creative Lab and Backyard director Greg Kohs, the film follows Laurent as he builds a fully functional flight simulator in his kid's bedroom. It's inspiring, emotive and quirky. What a guy.

How is your office celebrating Christmas this year?

We had a posh do at the Dylan Hotel with great drinks and bad food. We were joined by our partners, the guys who drive us around Amsterdam, our cleaning company - the whole extended family. We've had a mega year, so it's important to thank everybody properly. So, thank you, everybody.

What’s the one thing you look forward to in your time off over Christmas?

This year, sleep.

What’s your new year’s resolution?

1. See more of my girlfriend

2. Hire more amazing people so I can see more of my girlfriend

3. Be tidier

4. Be more punctual

5. Stop buying cats
