Agency 72andSunny Amsterdam is launching a film workshop, called Cine Bizzkids, for 12 children aged 8-12.

The initiative will encourage children to make their own movies through the agency’s  outreach programme 72U Bizzkids, in partnership with Cinekid, the children’s film and TV festival and Fawaka entrepreneurship school.  The children taking part will be challenged to make three short films to compete at the Cinekid festival this year in the Shorts By Kids competition.

Twelve children from nine different countries (Egypt, China, Romania, Ghana, Israel, Angola, Eritrea, Syria, and US) who recently became Dutch residents will be invited into the agency’s office to attend a five-day workshop during the school holidays in early May.

72U, which the agency created to champion equal access and diversity in the creative industries, is recruiting the kids in partnership with IMC Weekend School on Tour. IMC Weekend School employees, alumni and guest teachers provide Weekend School courses in language schools for newcomers children in the Netherlands.

The kids will go through the creative filmmaking process guided by teams from 72andSunny Amsterdam. Among the skills the children will be taught by experts in their fields are storytelling, scriptwriting, storyboarding, filming and editing, before they will be asked to present their finished movies at a special premiere for the agency, friends and family.

72U supports workshops and hands-on projects that aim to give back to the local community. This forms part of the 72andSunny mission to expand and diversify the creative class, reflecting its belief that more diverse points of view lead to more relevant, distinctive and interesting outcomes.

Hanneke Metselaar, 72U Director, says: “It is amazing to be able to partner with the children's festival Cinekid to enable a platform for kids to create and play. To give them insight into our agency and the creative industries in general as an environment for opportunities and possibilities. The advertising industry is white and male-led, and 72andSunny wants to change this by starting at the roots and collaborating with kids who are at the beginning of their lives. Advertising is not usually seen as one of the career possibilities for these children and we want to change this by offering ‘72U BizzKids’ programs that help kids and their parents to see the value of the creative industries.”

Linde Dorenbosch from Cinekid, says: “We’re always looking for ways to collaborate with like minded parties to give as many children as possible the opportunity to create their own media. Additionally, we’re happy to give their stories a platform during our festival.”

Khali Pijeaux, 10 years old, US: “My team came up with ‘climate change’ as the theme of our film, because we think it’s important that people know it’s happening. In the film we are experiencing climate change and protesting against dying polar bears. During this protest we sing a song that we made about climate change”.
