Laura Gregory, founder of Great Guns, talks us through how she'll be spending her week in Cannes and reveals the secrets to a successful festival for newbies.

How will you be spending the week in Cannes?

I am on the Craft Jury this year so I will be in the dark all week with nine men. I will then be in the dark all night catching up with everyone I’ve missed during the day.

Why is Cannes an important event for you to attend?

The quality of creative and business talent we can meet face to face in Cannes over five days is unique and exceptional.

Does winning a Lion at the festival have a noticeable impact on your business?

Yes, more than any other ‘A-list’ award it is a badge of honour and brings global respect for the brand.

Are there any seminars you’re particularly looking forward to seeing this week?

It’s impossible for me to make any plans.  Judging duty may mean I will miss most of them.  Or so I am told.

What’s your fondest memory of Cannes?

Winning two Gold Cyber Lions on the same night for different films.

What should every Cannes virgin make sure they do this week?

Go see the shortlists, meet as many people as they can from other parts of the world.  Talk, observe, listen, and cram their pockets with party invites.  Network. Network. Network.

What’s the right balance between work and play during the week?

12 hours work. 12 hours play.

What would make the perfect day at Cannes?

A Gold Lion

Complete the following sentence: If this was my last time at Cannes, I would want to...
