1920 VFX has completed a founder-backed management buyout.

The deal is led by Tim Phillips (CEO) Bill McNamara and Chris King (Creative Directors) who now take control of the business. Original founders Ludovic Fealy and Scott Griffin will continue to support the studio.

The deal follows two years of strong growth. The quality of 1920’s work has risen over that period and so has the size of the business. The London studio has expanded significantly to over 70 staff, Bristol has grown alongside it, and a new studio has been opened in Bangalore in 2025.

Phillips said: “Bill, Chris and I are very excited for the future, and significant plans are already in place to build on 1920’s great success. We are lucky to have a great team of talented people at the heart of the business, who we love working with.”

Founded in 2013, 1920 VFX has become one of London’s leading VFX studios. It remains independently owned, which the founders and management team see as a clear advantage: this independence allows for greater creative control, as wells as the ability to foster relationships on many fronts.

The management team is backed by investment from Beechbrook Capital. Gerald Edelman and Fieldfisher advised on the deal.
