Ever sat down at the dinner table and been rudely ignored – replaced even – by a smartphone or tablet?

You’re not alone… such is the case for despairing parents around the world, with family dinner time permanently disrupted by the prevailing power of WiFi.

Or so you thought… Clemenger BBDO Sydney has come up with a solution.

Last year, the agency created a short film (below) together with Dolmio introducing the Pepper Hacker – a contraption that not only cracks pepper but also disables WiFi access on smart devices and shuts down the TV.

Due to popular demand, the Pepper Hacker has now been created and is available to the public – with 5,000 Pepper Hackers set to be won in a special national giveaway.

"Sitting around a table and connecting over food is one of the most beneficial times of the day, helping families catch-up, have fun, and really connect,” says Mars Food Australia’s MD Tim Hicks. “The Pepper Hacker reminds us of the influence technology has over us and how we can all benefit from a little down time from it."

Pepper Hackers can disable the WiFi connection for 30 minutes by integrating it into the home WiFi system, providing just enough time for an undisturbed meal.

The latest short film co-created with AMV BBDO and helmed by Paul Middleditch (below) puts the Pepper Hacker to the test, examining just how absorbed unsuspecting children are when they’re distracted by technology. Luckily, with 30 tech-free minutes, dinnertime can continue again as quality family time.
