"How the hell did they do that?" It's a common refrain after most people have watched a commercial or piece of content in which the impossible has been achieved. A refrain in which often the only variable is the word "hell".

How they usually did it was with VFX but it's hard to get any further than that. Until now. On October 23 shots, in association with The Foundry, will be bringing you an evening event at which the art of visual effects will be discussed, dissected and demystified.

Taking place at London's Hostpital Club there will be presentations from two of the finest VFX supervisors in the business; Paul Simpson from Realise Studio and Shervin Shoghian who has worked on films such as District 9 and Watchmen, both of whom will be talking about specific projects they have worked on. That will be followed by a panel discussion which will examine things such as:

- the importance of technology in the creative process

- the relationship between a director and the VFX team

- what an agency can do to make the process of making a commercial run more smoothly

We will also be opening up the event to audience questions - both from those at the Hospital Club and those watching the live stream - so that you can find out everything you've ever wanted to know about VFX.

The event begins at 6.30pm on October 23, with the presentations and discussions starting at 7pm, followed by drinks and food at around 8pm.

If you would like to attend this event, there are limited places available but for more information please email Jessica Stacey.

Alternatively, you can watch the event via our live-streaming site, which can be accessed here
