Red Urban Travels the World with Volkswagen
Red Urban and VW tell the amazing tale of Paul Loofs and his three-time trip round the world in a Beetle.
Volkswagen Canada and Toroto-based agency Red Urban have created this insightful, touching and extraordinary tale of a man and his VW Beetle which highlights their journey around the world, not once but three time.
The online, 30 minute documetary recounts how 82-year-old Paul Loofs bought a VW Beetle, number 903847, in 1955 and made the decision to drive seemingly impossible distances in the car, taking him through America, South America, Australia, South East Asia and more.
The film - shot by Untitled's Hubert Davis - is called Once More; The Story of VIN 903847 and premiered on The Discovery Channel last month, but the online campaign goes a step further by using the film as the backbone of the site while allowing the viewer to interact with a variety of maps, photos, documents and journal entries that further define Loof's trips, and the eventual - and indeed ongoing - story of the car.
“This car has an incredible tale to tell," says Christina Yu, ECD at Red Urban. "Paul’s journals and photographs alone are so comprehensive and fascinating that we knew we had to do more than just the film to bring the whole story to life. And that’s what lead us to the concept of the interactive film for the website.”
